Texas's OZ 2.0 map is final. 608 tracts are designated, effective January 1, 2027, replacing the 628 current zones, which remain in effect through December 31, 2028.
This map opens on the official 2027 designated Texas Opportunity Zones (deep blue), effective January 1, 2027, from the list Treasury published November 5, 2026. Use the Layers panel to see the original 2018 zones (gold, in effect through December 31, 2028), both maps together, or the non-final eligible pool. On the 2027 view, the rural toggle shows only tracts marked Rural on the official list. See every designated Texas tract on the 2027 list.
Texas has 628 designated Qualified Opportunity Zones across 178 counties, the third highest total of any state, reflecting the state's enormous geographic size and economic diversity. Harris County (Houston), Dallas County, Bexar County (San Antonio), and Travis County (Austin) lead in zone counts, while the state's rural zones span the Rio Grande Valley, the Permian Basin, West Texas, and the Panhandle.
Texas's major metro OZs have attracted some of the highest levels of Qualified Opportunity Fund investment in the nation. Houston's zones cover significant portions of the city's north, east, and south sides, offering multifamily housing, industrial, and mixed-use opportunities in a market driven by the energy industry, the Texas Medical Center, and the Port of Houston. Dallas's zones include deep urban infill and suburban transitional neighborhoods with strong population and employment growth fundamentals. San Antonio's zones offer a value-oriented market with strong military and healthcare anchor employment. Austin's OZs have benefited from the city's technology economy boom, with significant housing demand pressure in adjacent OZ neighborhoods.
All OZ 1.0 designations remain in effect through December 31, 2028. Texas's zero state income tax, business-friendly environment, and extraordinary population growth across multiple major metros make it one of the most active OZ investment states in the country.
