Alaska's OZ 2.0 map is final. 25 tracts are designated, effective January 1, 2027, replacing the 25 current zones, which remain in effect through December 31, 2028.
This map opens on the official 2027 designated Alaska Opportunity Zones (deep blue), effective January 1, 2027, from the list Treasury published November 5, 2026. Use the Layers panel to see the original 2018 zones (gold, in effect through December 31, 2028), both maps together, or the non-final eligible pool. On the 2027 view, the rural toggle shows only tracts marked Rural on the official list. See every designated Alaska tract on the 2027 list.
Alaska has 25 designated Qualified Opportunity Zones, with a strong concentration in rural and remote census tracts that reflect the state's unique geographic and economic conditions. The Anchorage metro area contains the highest density of zones, while many others are spread across Alaska Native communities and coastal and interior regions far from population centers.
Investing in Alaska's Opportunity Zones carries distinct characteristics compared to the lower 48. Logistics, construction costs, and workforce availability are key considerations. However, the state's energy development activity, fisheries infrastructure, and growing tourism sector create real opportunities for patient, mission-aligned capital, particularly in rural zones where few investment vehicles have historically operated.
All OZ 1.0 designations remain in effect through December 31, 2028. Alaska's low property values in rural areas and the absence of a state income tax make the federal OZ tax incentive particularly meaningful for investors with long-term horizons.
